Harvesting the Wind to Power an Economic Boost to Cochise County

Respsol Renewables North America is developing a 175-megawatt (MW) wind project in Cochise County, Arizona, approximately 6 miles northwest of Willcox. Once operational, the project would generate enough electricity to power more than 30,000 Arizona homes annually.

Cochise County

Repsol Renewables North America has identified the area within Cochise County (see map to the right) as suitable for wind development because of its proximity to the existing transmission system with available capacity, a compatible wind resource, site suitability with existing land use, and minimal anticipated environmental impacts.

Desert Vine Wind Project Area

The Desert Vine Wind Project will be located entirely on State-owned land currently managed for cattle grazing and will interconnect onto AEPCO’s network. The area of study shown on the map will be shrink-wrapped around the project design; it is anticipated that project infrastructure will occupy a few hundred acres, or approximately 1% of the area shown. Given the minimal footprint associated with wind energy projects, grazing is a compatible land use that may continue throughout project operations.

Repsol Renewables North America is Committed to Siting the Desert Vine Wind Project Responsibly and Safely

Below are the ways in which we will minimize potential environmental impacts of the project.

Wildlife

Work with state and federal agencies and stakeholders to ensure that potential environmental impacts are fully considered, minimized, and mitigated

Visual

Conduct a visual impact assessment to analyze the project’s visibility from various key observation points

Closure

Implement financial securities that will guarantee responsible decommissioning and restoration at the end of the project’s life

Energy Independence

Generate local clean energy that strengthens the grid through resources diversity
